In the world of cybersecurity, great responsibility comes with it. Kurt Baron Agliam, also known as "FROSTBITE," proved his exceptional capabilities by being named as the ‘Wildcard Player’ among 44 participants in Region 2 at the 2024 Hack4Gov Competition. This victory earned him a prestigious opportunity to compete in the National Hack4Gov Competition in Manila, Philippines, this October 2024.
The competition took place at the Claude Conference Hall at CSU Andrews Campus in Tuguegarao City on August 29, 2024. Under the theme “𝘛𝘰𝘥𝘢𝘺’𝘴 𝘎𝘦𝘯𝘦𝘳𝘢𝘵𝘪𝘰𝘯, 𝘛𝘰𝘮𝘰𝘳𝘳𝘰𝘸’𝘴 𝘊𝘩𝘢𝘮𝘱𝘪𝘰𝘯: 𝘚𝘩𝘢𝘱𝘪𝘯𝘨 𝘵𝘩𝘦 𝘍𝘶𝘵𝘶𝘳𝘦 𝘰𝘧 𝘊𝘺𝘣𝘦𝘳𝘴𝘦𝘤𝘶𝘳𝘪𝘵𝘺 𝘵𝘩𝘳𝘰𝘶𝘨𝘩 𝘚𝘩𝘢𝘳𝘦𝘥 𝘙𝘦𝘴𝘱𝘰𝘯𝘴𝘪𝘣𝘪𝘭𝘪𝘵𝘺,” this nationwide capture-the-flag (CTF) event challenged students to tackle real-world cybersecurity issues, developing their problem-solving skills and deepening their understanding of cyber threats.
In an interview, he stated that his overall experience was great because he was able to work more effectively with his team: “I felt a mix of joy, pressure, and surprise because I really didn’t anticipate it. The challenges we faced really pushed us to do our best, not just individually but also as a team, as the nature of the event encouraged teamwork.”
Despite having limited experience in some domains of the competition, his outstanding performance distinguished him in a competitive field. Kurts’s extensive knowledge, strategic thinking, and effective teamwork helped him overcome the difficult challenges. His designation as a ‘Top Performer’ reflects his ability to excel under pressure, with his dedication and hard work in cybersecurity evident throughout the competition.
