Tuesday, September 17, 2024- the tropical depression was last seen in the vacinity of Alicia, Isabela, just before sunrise. The tropical depression significantly increased its speed, traveling west at 30 kilometers per hour instead of the previous 25 kilometers per hour.

It still has a maximum continuous wind speed of 55 km/h and gusts up to 70 km/h.

However, the Philippine Atmospheric, Geophysical, and Astronomical Services Administration (PAGASA) stated that "slight weakening is also possible" when Gener "interacts with the mountainous terrain of Northern Luzon," while another Tropical Storm (to be named Helen) is expected to enter the Philippine area of responsibility today, September 17.

As of 8 am on Tuesday, the following areas, under Signal No. 1, anticipate strong winds from Gener: Cagayan, including the Babuyan Islands, Isabela, Quirino, Nueva Vizcaya, Apayao, Kalinga, Abra, Ifugao, Mountain Province, Benguet, Ilocos Norte, Ilocos Sur, La Union, Pangasinan, Zambales, Tarlac, Nueva Ecija, Pampanga, Bulacan, northern and central parts of Bataan (Dinalupihan, Orani, Hermosa), Aurora, northern part of Quezon (General Nakar, Infanta), including Polillo Islands, northern part of Rizal (Rodriguez, San Mateo), northern part of Metro Manila (Quezon City, Caloocan City, Valenzuela City, Malabon City, Navotas City, Marikina City, City of Manila, San Juan City, Mandaluyong City)

Gener is expected to appear over the coastal seas of Ilocos Sur or La Union. After exiting the mainland, the tropical depression is expected to proceed west over the West Philippine Sea until Thursday, September 19, when it will turn west northwest into southern China. Gener may also grow into a tropical storm in the West Philippine Sea on Tuesday evening or early Wednesday morning, September 18. While there, it may leave the Philippine Area of Responsibility.

Remain safe and informed!
