In pursuit of quality and academic excellence, cultivating a conducive and supportive environment for students' success must be the top priority in mind. Placing unnecessary burden on students at critical times, such as examination weeks, would contradict this very objective.
Considering that this academic year recorded the highest number of students in years, it was anticipated that the queue for paying examination fees would increase significantly. Therefore, efficiency measures should have been planned in advance to address this surge.
It has been brought to everyone's attention that the prolonged queue students face to settle their accounts are not just a minor inconvenience; they also significantly detract from valuable study time.
Instead of using these hours to compose themselves for the exams, students are left waiting in line, which increases their stress and undermines their focus. Some students would even wake up at dawn to secure a spot in line. Such practices are impractical, placing undue pressure on students who are already grappling with exam-related anxiety.
At times, students would even collectively agree on the saying: "We're Perpetualite students, of course 5:00 AM palang nasa school na kami para mauna sa cashier," highlighting the fact that terminal examinations are comparable to blockbuster events. It is clear that this approach is neither conducive nor supportive of a commitment to fostering an optimal learning environment to achieve the highest quality of life.
This inefficiency not only affects academic performance but also puts a spotlight on the urgent need for system improvements.
To be fair, the institution has already opened additional payment windows in hopes of resolving this recurring issue. They've also implemented a "No Lunch Policy" for the cashiers and required them to stay open past regular hours. The establishment of a queueing system is also in progress as a further resolution.
Additionally, addressing this issue requires student discipline and support. Students tend to settle their dues only when examination week begins. The Maรฑana Habit, as it’s known, has been observed among students—the practice of postponing tasks that could be completed today until tomorrow. To help mitigate the problem, students should adhere to deadlines rigorously and promptly report any issues encountered. By engaging in these practices, students not only streamline the payment process but also contribute to a more efficient and effective system overall.
Above all, it is imperative for the institution and the student body to collaborate and reform the current system. By doing so, it can be ensured that the administrative practices align with everyone's academic objectives, thereby enhancing the overall examination experience and better supporting students’ academic success.
